"Looking Back While Moving Forward"
2011 Remer City Centennial
There’s always been some confusion as to the official incorporation of Remer Village. Remer Township (T-141-26) was organized in 1904, the original plat map of Remer Village was approved in 1910, but actual incorporation didn't happen until 1911 (due to needing 100 male votes for incorporation). The Village Council was formed in January of 1912, but the city and township didn’t split until 1914. Confusing right? So a few years back, the Remer Area Chamber of Commerce decided to declare 2011 as our official Centennial Celebration year for the city of Remer.
Here are some of the special events and activities during our celebration of this milestone:
CENTENNIAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
Centennial Calendar-A wonderful 16 month calendar
displaying historic old photos of Remer’s past. Covers September 2011 thru
December 2012. This will make a fabulous Centennial keepsake.
Centennial Cookbook- A book of recipes from
wonderful cooks of our community past and present.
Everyone is sure to enjoy the bits of history throughout.
Time Capsule- A collection of memorabilia
pertinent to our community in 2011 will be preserved for a future generation to open.
The time capsule will be placed in a specially made case to be prominently displayed.
Centennial Banners- Remer city placed new light pole banners
throughout downtown commemorating the Centennial.
In three distinct themes: Train, Eagle and Nature, this aesthetic
enhancement shows our community pride to travelers through the village.
History Crawl- Saturday, June 18th, 2011.
Events at the Depot include a Logging demonstration, food, music, historical information and more.
A stroll downtown revealed historical tidbits of the early days of Remer Village and surrounding area.
Harvest Festival- August 12 & 13, 2011.
Of course Centennial theme and surprises throughout the festival,
including horse-drawn carriage rides, barbershop quartet, and our own local Centenarian.
